In 1981, Nicolina Peduzzi began reproducing her father's family recipe of rustic pasta in Abruzzo, Italy, calling the new brand Rustichella d'Abruzzo. This famous shape, long, fat ribbons comes from the word affettare, meaning "to slice" as fettuccine is sliced from flat sheets. It's wide shape makes it perfect for catching thick sauces like alfredo.
