The land that now houses Riazul was once owned by Maria Higinia Gomez served as a high counselor to rebel leaders during Mexico's War for Independence. For her service, she was granted 10,000 acres of land — most of which she gave away to revolutionaries who fought for Mexico's freedom. The remaining 250 acres was handed down from generation to generation, eventually planted with agave by Riazul's founder, Iñaki Orozco. After two distillations, Riazul Añejo is aged for two years--longer than any tequila in its class--in Cognac barrels, creating a spirit with subtle hints of agave, driven by delicate flavors of honey, vanilla, dried fruits, and spices.
