R. H. Coutier is located in the grand cru village of Ambonnay, one of the top wine-producing towns in Champagne’s Montagne de Reims subregion. The Coutier family has been making wine in this region since the 1600s, and René Coutier, the current head of the estate, continues push the family’s winemaking forward in exciting ways. For example, while Ambonnay is widely regarded as pinot noir country, R.H. Coutier has done wonders for chardonnay in this challenging, clay-rich terroir. This Brut Rosé is a deeply colored example. It is racy and beautifully made from pinot noir and chardonnay, and offers notes of red fruit, brioche, and the complex soil tones of Ambonnay fruit.
