Rye is an American whiskey distilled from rye grain. Popular before prohibition, it went out of vogue after the repeal. Oddly its drop in popularity meant that if you could find it, it was generally a better value spirit than other American whiskeys like bourbon. Old Overholt is drier than the Rittenhouse rye but has some of the same spicy notes. Try this old fashioned liquor in an Old Fashioned cocktail, a Manhattan or even a Brooklyn cocktail.
