Michel Gahiers family has been living in the Jura, a region southwest of Burgundy, since the mid-1500s. At this point, his intuition and knowledge of the winemaking in the region is probably engrained in his DNA. But it also helps that Michel learned from the king of winemaking in the Jura - Jacques Puffeney. As Jacques neighbor and friend, he has looked to him for guidance through the years. The bad news for Puffeney is that he now has legitimate competition on the other side of his fence. This is a stellar chardonnay, a true expression of the varietal untainted by modern winemaking practices that tend to distort its profile.
