Priorat is a hot region in more than one sense of the word. Firstly, its baking Mediterranean climate that exists along Spain's northeast coast. Secondly, the region has rocketed into the upper echelon of sought-after wines in the international market because of its bold, full-bodied wines. However, the key to balance and elegance in Priorat is its elevation, hot days balanced by cool nights. Sara Perez, the talented winemaker at Mas Martinet uses no new oak on this cuvee, made from 100% organic Garnatxa. The wine is filled with dark fruits and notes of coffee and tobacco. Still a big, bold red, this wine offers a stylish retort to the the modernist, almost macho wines pouring out of Priorat.
