For those of you who have not heard of Carignan, you are in for a surprise. This rich, concentrated juice comes from vines 75 to 130 years old, which is almost as remarkable as one of us living that long. With age, vines develop increased complexity, concentration and character. This wine is so intense, decanting is recommended ¬ it is even better on the second or third day. Seriously. It is all here: dark fruits like blackberry, blueberry and cassis; a hint of peaty earth mixed with crushed stones and then followed by toasty walnuts and white pepper. Gentle but firm tannins linger on the long finish.
