One of the undisputed kings of Barolo, Giacomo Conterno is a living legend. His wines are grand and glorious, standing as towering monuments of Italian winemaking. It is hard to put into words what Conterno's wines can reveal, but they are more easily described as experiences rather than as tangible objects. This barbera, one of Conterno's more modest offerings, still has the potential to knock your socks off. Although most barberas are enjoyable, easy-going table wines, this is a serious, blockbuster of a wine. Full-bodied and powerful it is packed full of cherries, violets, coffee, and fresh tar.
