Rhum Barbancourt was established by Dupre Barbancourt in 1862 when he emigrated to Haiti from the Cognac region of France. Originally he set out to make rum that was as good if not better than Cognac. This is where Barbancourt gets its unique flavor from as he applied the traditional French distillation method to pure, locally grown sugar cane juice and aged the spirit in oak barrels from Limousin, as practiced in the production of cognac in his native Charente. 150 years later this process is still maintained. 5 Star is a complex dark rum, characterized by oaky spice, pepper and wood on the nose, with hints of a rich caramel and vanilla in the background.
