The Valtellina is a very small wine-producing region in the mountains north of Milan, just south of the Alps that border Switzerland. The predominant grape variety is Nebbiolo, usually referred to here as Chiavennasca. This beautiful red is made from partially dried grapes, selected from exceptional vineayards and is aged for a minimum of 3 years in oak barrels. Deep ruby red with a garnet rim, the intense bouquet features complex notes of violet, cassis, and blackberry jam--notes that wash over the palate with fine acidity, velvety tannins, finishing long and unforgettable.
