Arnot-Roberts is part of the next wave of California winemakers. Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts had been friends since childhood when they formed the project in 2001. There goal was to find sites that utilized the cool winds coming off the Pacific Ocean to retain acidity and balance in their wines. Today they are making some of the finest chardonnays, syrahs, and cabs in California. The Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay is a lesson in restraint, with balanced, relatively low alcohol (for California) of 13%. This is a lean wine but maintains the richness that one would expect from chardonnay. Citrus notes abound, with hints of spice, pear and fresh minerality.
