A Helping Hand for First Responders

  04/17/2020 at 21:26 pm

Last week we received an email from a former employee who is now a paramedic at Maimonides Hospital. As we all know, paramedics are on the front lines serving our community during the COVID outbreak. He had a simple request that we were honored to fulfill for these selfless first responders.

Hi guys!

It's your old friend Steve here. First of all, I'm glad you guys are doing ok and wish continued health to you and your families.

I wanted to reach out to you with an idea. As you know, as well as working with you guys, the Greene Grape family, I am also an NYC paramedic working out of Maimonides hospital here in Brooklyn. Since the beginning of this outbreak, 911 calls have gone up from an average of 4500 to well over 7000 calls a day and our EMT's and paramedics are responding to all of them, protected as much as they can be but really worked to the bone.

I wanted to reach out to you to see if there might be any possibility of a donation of sandwiches from The Greene Grape to the EMS department at Maimonides. These guys and gals have to work from 8 to 16 hours with  no break and no base to sit at, they end up spending all that time in the ambulance and stopping for food has become a luxury which has become an impossibility. Now, the calls just don't stop.

If you would be willing to donate anywhere between 40 and 60 sandwiches I would be happy to deliver them at afternoon tour change so as many people as possible can get a good meal as they tend to the sick and injured of Brooklyn.

Thank you so much for your time, attention and consideration and I wish you all the best.

The most touching part was his thank you note:

Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us and the community and thank you for your kind words they really do mean so much.

I’m looking forward to seeing my Greene Grape family again soon, right now we have the new baby to look after, born March 25th at the height of the pandemic! He’s a bright spark in a dark world and I’ll be glad to introduce you guys to him soon.

Stay safe and well,

All the best.
Steve, Michelle and Henry Webb

The Greene Grape family and the Fort Greene community send much love and eternal gratitude to Stevie, his family, and his colleagues!
